As an ESL teacher, I have spent my career helping people bridge language barriers and build confidence through communication. I've always been fascinated by foreign languages and enjoy meeting people from different countries and cultures. My passion for travel and language learning inspired me to create iSpeak as a way to help others experience those same connections.
From the beginning, iSpeak focused on helping both children and adults learn Spanish in a practical and engaging way. In our early years, we operated from our own learning center in Pelham, Alabama and partnered with local schools to provide Spanish instruction for students.
One of our very first teachers was Sierra, an elementary school teacher who shares my passion for education and the Spanish language. She joined the iSpeak team in 2012, helping teach Spanish in elementary schools, and in 2018 became my business partner. Together, we have continued to grow iSpeak while staying true to our mission of helping students communicate confidently in Spanish.
In 2020, when the pandemic changed the educational landscape, we transitioned from in-person programs to online instruction. While the change was unexpected, it allowed us to reach students from across the United States and beyond. We also shifted our focus to serving adult learners, helping them develop practical Spanish skills they can use in everyday life.
Today, iSpeak offers live online classes, private lessons, conversation groups, and self-paced programs for adults at a variety of levels. Our students range from complete beginners learning their first Spanish words to more advanced speakers looking to improve their confidence and fluency.
As lifelong language learners ourselves, Sierra and I understand both the challenges and the rewards of learning to communicate in a new language. We know what it feels like to search for the right word, make mistakes, and gradually build confidence through practice. That experience helps us better understand the needs of our students and the support they need to succeed.
One of the things that makes iSpeak different is our personal approach. As a small company, we take the time to get to know our students and understand their goals, whether they are learning Spanish for travel, work, family, ministry, or personal enrichment. We help each student find the program, class, or teacher that best fits their needs, and we enjoy supporting them throughout their language-learning journey.
Unlike larger language-learning companies, we believe relationships matter. Our goal is to create an encouraging environment where every student feels seen, supported, and confident as they learn.
We believe that learning Spanish opens doors. It creates opportunities for travel, work, service, friendships, and deeper connections with the people around us.
For more than 15 years, we have had the privilege of helping students build confidence in Spanish. We are grateful for every student who has trusted us to be part of their language-learning journey.
