What Level Am I?

 

Who should take Level 1? 

If you have never studied Spanish before, then you are a true beginner and need to begin with Level 1.  If you studied Spanish in high school and/or college, but it's been awhile, you probably want to start with Level 1.  In Level 1 you will learn A LOT of basic vocabulary such as greetings, numbers, colors, family, useful expressions, days of the week, months of the year, and weather.  You will also learn the correct pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet, which is REALLY important if you want to be understood.

Who should take Level 2?

If you have taken Spanish within the past few years or you feel comfortable with the basics listed for Level 1, then you should begin with Level 2.  In Level 2 we begin with present tense conjugation.  So, if you know a lot of nouns, but have trouble with verbs, then this is the class for you!  You will learn:


-Regular present tense verbs

-Subject pronouns

-Interrogatives (ex. Who? What? When?)

-Boot verbs (stem changing)

-Conjunctions (ex. and, or, but)

-Singular/plural nouns

-Adjectives

Who should take Level 3?

If you are comfortable using the present tense, but you're not so great at talking about the past, then this is the class for you!  In Level 3 you will continue with more present-tense verbs and begin learning past-tense verbs.  Below is a list of topics covered in Level 3:


-Irregular present-tense verbs

-Ser and Estar

-Indefinite articles (ex. a, some)

-Negatives

-Regular past-tense verbs

-Prepositions (ex. at, with, after)

-Past-tense boot verbs

-Direct-object pronouns

-The personal "A"

-Expressions with "Tener"

Who should take Level 4?

If you are comfortable using the past tense, but you need help with the Imperfect Tense, then this is the class for you!  In Level 4 you will continue with more past-tense verbs and begin learning the imperfect tense verbs.  Below is a list of topics covered in Level 4:

-Preterite of Irregular verbs
-Possessive Adjectives
-Indirect Object Pronouns
-The Verb "Gustar"
-Clothing Vocabulary
-Imperfect Tense
-Reflexive Object Pronouns

Who should take Level 5?

If you need more practice determining when to use preterite vs. imperfect, then this is the class for you!  In Level 5 you will continue with more practice using the imperfect tense verbs and deciding how to choose between the two forms of past tense.  Below is a list of topics covered in Level 5:


-Home Vocabulary
-Irregular verbs in the Imperfect 
-Double Object Pronouns
-Adverbs that end with -mente
-School Vocabulary
-Choosing between the Preterite and the Imperfect
-Choosing between "saber" and "conocer"

-The Construction with "acabar de"

Who should take Intermediate?

This is the class for anyone who feels pretty comfortable with vocabulary and grammar, but still needs a safe environment to practice speaking.  In this class we will continue learning some grammar, but we will also be watching videos, talking about current events and playing games in Spanish to improve your communication skills.  We will try to talk as much as possible in Spanish!

Who should take Advanced?

This class is our conversation class.  This class is 95% Spanish and is for students who feel pretty comfortable talking, even if it's not perfect.  The teacher and students in this class are very patient and helpful, but things move quickly.  They do a lot of conversation and presentations.  Topics vary based on students' interests and teacher's whim!
